Located in Northwest Louisiana,
not far from the Texas state line, the Bossier City area was first settled in the 1830s as the Elysian Groves Plantation of James and Mary Cane. The area quickly became
a key travel and Transportation center. Early settlers passed through the region on their way to the Wild West. The Red River gave steamboats filled with loads of cotton,
corn, and sweet potatoes access to the Mississippi and markets in the South and East. In the mid-1880s, the transcontinental railroad provided additional access to the city.
The Dixie Overland Highway from the East to West Coast was built through Bossier City in 1918 competing a transportation route that has continued to bring travelers
